I started this one a month ago, I worked on it in between the Reanimator and the Poe pieces, and a two by two foot painting I can’t show you until the single drops. My favorite Addams are the original cartoons. The show was was campy and I wanted it to be scarier, even when I was in single digits, and the movies far too colorful and felt like they were missing the jokes, which is why, after all this time, and how many incarnations, Carolyn Jones is still the best Morticia. And Ophelia, for the purists out there. And I imagine that there aren’t many fans of the Wednesday series who’ll remember which Tobe Hooper movie she starred in, haha! A hint is it doesn’t involve board schools where every monster is a beautiful model, god damn it!
Like the Barbarella painting, the reference photo was weird. The mid 60s must’ve had a fad where studio shots were lit directly head on from the from, negating contrast, shadow, and form, but I couldn’t resist this pose. 16” x 20,” oil on canvas.
