I attended a Grateful Dead show at the height of my psychotic teenage years, allegedly. I have a few events that were utterly blacked out, up to an including performing in one of the musicals at my local theater troupe that I have zero memories of, and that was weeks of rehearsal and performances! So, yeah, I’d love to regale you of incredible stories of seeing that legendary band live on stage, and if you could locate a conscious seventeen year old me and ask him about it, I’d like to hear them too!
I grew up biting all of the artists that appeared in The Art Of Rock Book, but my true guru was Rick Griffin, the visionary who helped draw a face onto rock and roll, and was creating some of the most signature artwork for the Dead while still crashing in a van on Haight Asbury as they were forming. It gives me great pleasure anytime I can follow in his footsteps, and thus humbly offer this tribute to a gentleman music critics hail as one of the most versatile guitar players of his generation. Godspeed, Senõr Garcia, we’ll see you on the other side. 18" x 24", oil on canvas.
